The reading curriculum at Thames Park is designed to help students develop strong reading skills that will serve them well throughout their academic careers and beyond. We believe that reading is a fundamental life skill and an essential component of a well-rounded education.

Our reading curriculum is based on the latest research and best practices in reading instruction. To support our reading curriculum, we use a variety of platforms such as Accelerated Reader, STAR Reading, Lexia, Read Write Ink, and Fresh Start.

Accelerated Reader is a program that allows students to take quizzes on the books they have read, and it helps track their progress as they read more books. STAR Reading is an assessment tool that helps us measure students' reading levels and monitor their progress over time. Lexia is a computer-based program that helps students develop their phonics, phonemic awareness, and word recognition skills. Read Write Ink is a writing program that supports students in developing their writing skills, including grammar and sentence structure. Fresh Start is a program designed to support students who may be struggling with reading, providing them with additional instruction and resources to improve their skills.

One of the key components of our reading curriculum is a strong emphasis on independent reading. Students are encouraged to read widely and regularly, both in and out of class. We have a well-stocked library with a wide variety of books, and teachers and our librarian work with students to help them find books that they will enjoy and that are at an appropriate reading level.

In addition to independent reading, we also use a variety of other instructional strategies to help students improve their reading skills. These include small-group instruction, guided reading, and reading workshops. We also use the assessment tools described above to monitor students' progress and to make sure that they are getting the support they need to be successful readers.

Overall, our reading curriculum is designed to be challenging and engaging, and to help students become confident and proficient readers. We believe that by providing students with a strong foundation in reading, we are setting them up for success in all areas of their lives.
