Parliament Trip

Recently, students from Thames Park School were invited to London by Angela Smith, Baroness Smith of Basildon, to visit the Houses of Parliament. The trip, organised by Blu Benjamin, was a great opportunity for the students to gain an insight into the workings of democracy and to meet the Baroness in person.

The students were given a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament and the historic grounds, including the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The tour was informative and engaging, with the students learning about the history of the building and of the British government. They were also able to see the debating chamber, where they were encouraged to ask questions and discuss the topics of the day.

After the tour, the students were invited to meet Baroness Smith of Basildon in her office. She spoke to them about her role in the House of Lords and discussed topics such as the importance of voting and the value of democracy. The students were also given the opportunity to ask her questions about her experience in politics and her work in the House of Lords.

The visit from the Baroness was a great experience for the students, giving them an insight into the workings of the British government and a chance to meet someone who is actively involved in politics. The students were also inspired by what they saw on their visit and have returned to school with a greater understanding of the importance of democracy and the impact it has on our everyday lives.
